For the Australian people who have to work while it was on…
Curt Cavin and Kevin Lee were gracious enough to let me occupy the airwaves on their show “Trackside” on 1070 The Fan this evening, under the newly instituted “if you come from over 15 hours flight away and call in a few times, we’ll let you sit in the studio for a bit, just don’t touch anything” rule.
If you want to hear the show this particular week, this link to the MP3 should work. Better still, subscribe to the podcast and listen every week.
Great stuff to watch two guys who know what they’re doing, do it well. It’s real easy to chime in every five minutes with 30 seconds of wisdom as I did. It’s certainly a lot harder for Curt and Kevin to fill the 3 minutes in between that, with something that engages the audience, but they seem to do it with Penske like regularity week after week.
As Kevin has said before, a good show is a show where you feel like you could have gone on a bit longer. The guys could have taken another 60 minutes of calls this week, and still left them wanting more.
Really enjoyed participating, and I’m hoping under the 15 hour rule, given my net travel time from Melbourne to Indianapolis was 31 hours, I can use the 16 hours remaining to acquire another two hour lease on a chair in a studio in Monument Circle sometime soon!
Shane:
Welcome to Indy! I’ve enjoyed hearing you call in from Australia the last 2 years and now in person on the Curt and Kevin podcast. I hope you enjoy your first 500 in person. I know you have been out at the track several times already for quals and practice, but I truly think you will be blown away on raceday. The track has a completely different look/feel when the stands are full and with all the pageantry. I’d be curious to know where you will be watching the race from. I hope you are able to see some of the pre-race pageantry before the race on the front straighway. Please blog your comments/impressions after your first 500 raceday experience. My first “in person” 500 was 1983, Tom Sneva victory, I was only 12 years old then and I had watched the race on tv for years, but there is just something special about being there in person. I go every year now and sit in Stand A, across from the Penske/Ganassi pits. Great seats, nice view of the straightwat and turn 1, plus we can see all the pre-race pageantry and great views of the actions in the pits. Stand A is also nice because it is covered (comes in handy during rain delays and cuts out the raceday sunburn). Enjoy the race! You might be from Australia, but on raceday, I bet you will be a Hoosier with tears in your eyes around 12:45pm
God Speed,
Rick, a fellow open wheel fan!
Nice work!
Just on what Jeff said in no.5 – there was a short news story in Autosport magazine this week (which I haven’t seen elsewhere) stating that Tony George wants to make the rules package sportscar style, i.e. Le Mans sets the rules which are then picked up by different series in Europe, America, a proposed one in Asia.. Wouldn’t it be great if there were an IndyCar series on each continent and they all came together at Indy? Mega Big Bump Day!
I tell you what, this Brit would love a European IndyCar Series to come along and replace some of the more stupid series we currently have here.
